Katherine Engel

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Public Administration and Policy in the School of Public Affairs at American University. I plan to defend my dissertation and complete my doctoral degree in May 2024. ​My interests span a range of topics concerning the social safety net and well-being. I am particularly interested in the role of family support policies in reducing health disparities. My dissertation focuses on the effect of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) on mental health, subjective well-being, and health behaviors.​​
